How To Cure Depression, Anxiety, Fear, And Overthinking In Islam
Apart from the duas we’ve discussed for curing depression and anxiety, remember the following points.
1. Recite Astaghfar Frequently
Rasoolullah ﷺ has mentioned in a hadith:
If anyone continually asks pardon, Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress, and a relief from every anxiety and will provide for him from where he did not reckon (source)
So make a habit of reciting Syed ul Astaghfar at least once every day, and shorter Astaghfar dua after every namaz.
2. Ask Allah For His Blessings
A companion of Rasoolullah ﷺ used to live in constant fear for his financial safety, the future of his children, and other matters.
The Prophet taught him the following dua
بسم الله على ديني ونفسي وولدي وأهلي ومالي
Bismillahi Ala Deeni Wa Nafsi Wa Waladee Wa Ahlee Wa Maalee
I ask for the blessings of Allah’s name in my religion, life, children, family, and belongings
Also, scholars have recommended reading Dua e Anas in times of fear and distress.
3. Count Allah’s Blessings Every Day
Can you move your body without needing anyone’s help? Can you breathe without pain? Do you have food in your fridge? Do you have clothes to cover your body? Are you a Muslim?
All of these are immense blessings of Allah SWT on you.
Be thankful for them and don’t compare yourself with others.
Take 10 minutes every day, sit alone, and think of all the blessings of Allah SWT in your life. When you do this every day, you’ll realize you’re better off than most people and shouldn’t be depressed.
4. Trust Allah
Nothing happens without Allah’s will.
And He loves us the most and doesn’t do anything that is not in our best interest.
So, if something is not happening the way you want, trust Allah. He has better plans for you.
And He is the best planner.
Make a hbaot of readin gthis dua freuqnelty
حَسْبُنَا اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Hasbunallahu Wa Nemal Wakeel
Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)
May Allah SWT relieve us all of depression and anxiety and give us peace of mind.
5. Be Regular In Prayer, Especially Fajr
Namaz is the solution for all problems because it establishes your direct connection with Allah SWT.
Fajr prayers in particular, are a natural anti-depressant from Allah SWT.
So, sleep early, and try offering Fajr prayers regularly in the mosque with Jamat, and you will feel Allah’s blessings in your life.
