Unfortunately, most Islamic books for children are either too advanced or not engaging enough.
I’m sure you’ve also faced this challenge as a concerned Muslim parent.

Best Islamic Books For Children In English – Ranked & Reviewed
To make it easier for you to find the right books, I’ve divided them into three categories for children of different ages.
Remember, to develop a reading habit in your children, you’ll have to read most of these books to your child. So, if you struggle with reading regularly, watch this video, it has some great tips.
Best Islamic Books For Toddlers
It’s rare to find good toddler books about Islam because most Islamic books are loaded with text and very few illustrations.
But these books are different.
1. My First Book About Allah
Not sure how to introduce your child to the concept of Allah, worship, and loving your creator? This book is a great help.
I loved it because it uses colorful images and easy language to simplify complex concepts. It doesn’t complicate things for your child and tells them about Allah and what He means to us using examples, images, and illustrations.
The paper quality is great, and the colorful design is exactly what attracts children.
Ideal for children around 3-4 years of age.
2. My First Book About Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Telling our kids about the beautiful personality of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and instilling his love in their hearts is critical.
This book does a fabulous job of highlighting Prophet Muhammad’s qualities in simple words for young children. It is full of colorful pages and illustrations that kids find appealing and relatable.
Read 1-2 pages from this book to your kids at bedtime to gradually introduce them to the most complete man to have ever lived.
3. Allah Loves You
Most Muslim societies teach their children to fear Allah from a very young age.
I don’t agree with this approach.
We should first develop the love of Allah Taala in our children’s hearts because once they start loving Him, they’ll automatically fear doing anything that displeases Him.
This book, Allah Loves You, is designed to present Allah SWT as our loving creator. It does so by sharing beautiful illustrations, examples, and colorful pictures.
Ideal for children around 3-4 years of age.
Islamic Books For Kids [4-6 Years]
When children reach the age of 4-5, they start asking innocent questions about Allah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and different aspects of Islam.
Your answers leave a lasting impact on their minds and often shape their future beliefs. So, this is the time when you guide them by reading informative books that gradually introduce them to the different concepts in Islam.
Here are some of my recommendations.
4. My Baby’s First Islamic Words
We read A for Apple and B for Ball in our school days. But what if we use these letters as an opportunity to introduce our children to different Islamic concepts?
That’s precisely what this book does.
It is a colorful and attractive book designed for preschool children and uses the English alphabet with an Islamic perspective.
For example, instead of A for Apple, it says A for Allah and B for Barakah. It also has a short explanation of each word and what it means in an Islamic context.
5. Wonders Of The Muslim World Coloring Book
Our children can easily recognize the Statue of Liberty or Burj Khalifa. But do they know about the Blue Mosque, Badshahi Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and other such marvels of Islamic architecture worldwide?
This coloring book will not only help your kids improve their drawing and coloring skills but also introduce them to the most prominent mosques, buildings, and landmarks in different Muslim countries.
Why is this important?
Because it will make your kids proud of the Muslim Ummah’s accomplishments and make them curious about our glorious past.
6. Prophet Stories For Kids
According to research, bedtime stories play a vital role in shaping a child’s intellectual capabilities, beliefs, ideals, and aspirations.
This is why telling them meaningful stories that inspire them to aim high is critical to their development as good Muslims and human beings.
This book narrates the true stories of four Prophets – Moses, Adam, Nuh, and Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ – from the Holy Quran in easy-to-understand language, using colorful images and illustrations.
It is an ideal replacement for the meaningless stories many of us tell our kids before sleep.
7. But Who Is Allah?
That’s an innocent question every child asks.
But how do we respond to it? Do we tell them something that confuses them even more or satisfies their curiosity?
This book narrates the story of a child who’s curious about Allah and Islam.
Using a fun story, the authors have described the child’s journey of how he understood the concept of God, and became familiar with Allah SWT and his beautiful religion, Islam.
It’s an ideal bedtime story for young kids as it uses different examples and colorful pictures to explain our relationship with Allah SWT.
Best Children’s Islamic Books [7-10 Years]
Once your child reaches the age of 7, you must gradually educate them about the fundamentals of Islam, the basics of the Islamic lifestyle, and the concept of halal and haram.
And most importantly, you should start teaching them how to offer Namaz according to Sunnah because Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has instructed us to teach Namaz to our kids when they’re 7 years old.
Here are a few books that will help you enhance your child’s knowledge about Islam.
8. The 5 Pillars Of Islam
The whole foundation of Islam stands on the five pillars of Kalimah e Shahadat, Namaz, Roza, Hajj, and Zakat.
This book describes these pillars through an engaging story of a young girl who visits her grandmother.
It uses attractive images and colorful illustrations to ensure your child remains engaged while reading the book.
9. 30 Days Of Learning And Good Deeds
This book is a bit text heavy, but it contains some excellent exercises to help your children enhance their knowledge about Islam and become better human beings.
The main idea behind the book is that it gives you and your child 30 different challenges to complete in 30 days.
These challenges include things like being more thankful to Allah, not disobeying parents, being more disciplined in daily life, asking Allah for help in every matter, and gaining more knowledge about the blessed life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
However, your child will need your help in navigating this book because it can be a little complex for their understanding.
10. Morals And Good Character
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has emphasized good manners and declared them the criteria of a complete Muslim.
But good manners and character building must start at an early age.
Apart from leading by example, you must also formally educate your child about good and bad manners and what are the qualities of a good Muslim.
This book will help your cause as it describes different Islamic morals and shares ways to develop them in your child.
11. Little Zaid’s Journey To Salah
When your child turns 7, you must start teaching them how to offer namaz as it is commanded by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
However, you must do it in a friendly way by explaining the benefits of Salah and why we need to offer it. Show your kids how Namaz makes your life more disciplined, increases your faith, and makes you a better human being. Also, explain the reward for offering Namaz in this world and the hereafter.
This book shares the journey of a child named Ziad, who has turned seven and is now learning Namaz.
It walks you through the common questions children have about namaz and helps you describe this critical part of Islam with Hikmah.
It teaches children the fundamentals of Namaz like:
- Being regular in prayer (especially Fajr and Isha)
- Making Wudu
- The faraiz and sunnahs of namaz
- Reading surahs from the Quran.
- Durood sharif, dua e qunoot, and the duas to read in Namaz
12. Taleem ul Islam [English]
Taleem ul Islam is one of the classic books taught in religious schools around the world. It is written for children aged 7 and above and lists all the foundational questions that you need to answer your child as a parent.
For example, it asks simple questions like
- “Who am I?”
- “What’s the purpose of my life?”
- “What happens after this life?”
- “Who is Allah?”
- “Who is Prophet Muhammad?”
- “What are angles?”
The Q&A style format of this book makes it perfect for teaching it to your kids. Written by Mufti Kifayatullah, a renowned scholar from the subcontinent, this book is originally in the Urdu language, but its English translation is also available.
It’s a must-have book for kids and elders alike.
The Right Way To Read Islamic Books To Your Children
Children don’t understand the significance of Islamic knowledge at their age. So, don’t try to force-read these books otherwise, they’ll start running away from it.
Instead, make it an enjoyable activity without making it a burden. Do it by reading just one page every day when they’re relaxed (at bedtime or at the dinner table).
Let them ask questions and be patient while answering them.
Remember! Children are curious and don’t realize the importance of these books like you.
So, be patient and take it slowly.
