اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَىَّ وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
Transliteration
Allahumma Annta Rabbi La Ilaha Illa Ant, Khalaqtani Wa Ana Abduk, Wa Ana Ala Ahdika Wa Wadika Masta Tawtu, Aoozubika Minn Sharri Ma Sawnatu, Aboo Ulaka Bi Naimatika Alayya, Wa Aboo’u Bizambi, Faghfirli, Fa Innahu La Yaghfiruz Zunooba Illa Ant.
English Translation
Here’s the English translation of Syed ul Astaghfar
“O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no God except You. You created me, and I am Your servant. And I abide by Your oath and promise [that I may honor it] to the best of my ability. I seek refuge with You from every evil I have committed. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for surely there is no one who can forgive sins except You.”

“Aay Allah, Ap mere Rab hain, Ap ke Siwa koi Khuda Nahi. Aap ne mujhe Paida Kiya Aur Main Apka Banda Hu. Aur Main Ap Se Kiye Huay Ehed Aur Waday Par Apni Istita’at Ke Mutabiq Qaim Hu, Apnay Kiye Huay Buray Kaamo Ke Wabal Se Apki Panah Mangta Hu. The Benefits And Fazilat Of Syed ul Astaghfar In Hadith
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has described the immense benefits and fazilat of reciting Syed ul Astaghfar at least once every day.
قَالَ ” وَمَنْ قَالَهَا مِنَ النَّهَارِ مُوقِنًا بِهَا، فَمَاتَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُمْسِيَ، فَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، وَمَنْ قَالَهَا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَهْوَ مُوقِنٌ بِهَا، فَمَاتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ، فَهْوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ
The Prophet (ﷺ) said.
“If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.” (Bukhari 6306)
So according to this Hadith, if a person reads this Astaghfar and dies the same day, they’ll go straight to Jannah.

English Translation
I seek forgiveness from Allah, who is my sustainer, for every sin that I have committed intentionally or unintentionally, publicly or privately, and I seek forgiveness for the sins that I am aware of and for the sins that I’m unaware of. Indeed Allah knows the unseen and covers the shortcomings (of His servants), and forgives sins. And the ability to leave sins and perform good deeds is only from Allah, who is the most exalted and glorious.

Astaghfar Meaning | What Does Astaghfirullah Mean?
Astaghfar means to seek Allah’s forgiveness for our past sins. The word Astaghfirullah literally means “I seek Allah’s forgiveness”.
It is one of the most virtuous deeds for a Muslim because we’re all flawed human beings and cannot fulfill the rights of Almighty Allah the way we should. So, frequently reciting Astaghfar has been the way of the Prophets and all their pious followers.
But there are two conditions for Istaghfar to be valid.
- Be ashamed of your past sins.
- Leave the sin you’re doing.
Reciting Astaghfar while sinning is not beneficial. In fact, it might result in even more punishment than the original sin because it is like making a mockery of Astaghfar.
The Benefits Of Reciting Astaghfar Wazifa In Quran And Hadith
Reciting Astaghfar wazifa frequently is not only a source of forgiveness for our sins but also has numerous benefits in this world and the hereafter.
The fazilat and reward of reading Astaghfar have been mentioned in various verses of the Holy Quran. For example, Allah says in Surah Nuh (ayahs 10-12)
فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارً
يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًۭا
وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍۢ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍۢ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًۭا
saying, ‘Seek your Lord’s forgiveness, ˹for˺ He is truly Most Forgiving.
He will shower you with abundant rain,
Supply you with wealth and children, and give you gardens as well as rivers.
Rasoolullahﷺ described the benefits and fazilat of astaghfar in a hadtih, saying:
من لزم الاستغفار ، جعل الله له من كل ضيق مخرجاً ومن كل هم فرجاً، ورزقه من حيث لا يحتسب
“If anyone constantly seeks pardon (from Allah), Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where he expects not.”
So based on these ayahs of the Quran and various hadith, here are some of the rewards and benefits of frequently reading Astaghfar.
Allah Taala Forgives Sins
The most obvious benefit of reciting astaghfar is that Allah SWT forgives our sins. So, the person who regularly performs astaghfar never has piles of sins on his back. Instead, astaghfar keeps his burden light and nourishes his soul.
Allah Taala Increases Rizq
When Allah Taala forgives our sins because of Astaghfar, He gives barakah in our Rizq. In Arabic, Rizq doesn’t just mean money or food. Instead, it represents every blessing of Allah SWT, for example, children, food, honor, status, etc. So, scholars say that if someone is facing financial or health-related problems, they should recite Astaghfar frequently.
Allah Taala Grants Children (Baby Boy or Girl)
Allah Taala has promised to bless us with beautiful, healthy children if we regularly seek His forgiveness by reciting Astaghfar. Scholars say that Astghfar is the best medicine for any couple looking to conceive a child. Plus, if you have disobedient children, reciting astaghfar frequently will soften their hearts and make them obedient.
Allah Taala Helps In Impossible Situations
Astaghfar helps you overcome impossible situations and obstacles where there’s seemingly no hope. Allah Taala helps his servants who seek his forgiveness and never lets them down. So, offer two rakat Salatul Hajat and recite astaghfar frequently to invite Allah’s help.
Allah Taala Grants Beneficial Rain
Beneficial rain is a basic human need. So, scholars say that if there’s drought in an area or there’s excessive rain that’s causing damage to property, people should frequently recite astaghfar. Allah Taala would grant rain if it’s needed and blow it away if it is harmful.
The Best Times And Quantity To Recite Ashtaghfar
As Muslims, we should frequently read Astaghfar whenever possible.
Abu Huraira narrates that
وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول “والله إني لأستغفر الله وأتوب إليه في اليوم أكثر من سبعين مرة” ((رواه البخاري))
I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, “I swear by Allah that I seek Allah’s Pardon and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day.”
So, when Rasoolullah ﷺ, who is free of sins, recites Astaghfar so frequently, why shouldn’t we do it?
This is why most scholars say we should read at least one tasbeeh of Astaghfar kalma (100 times) every day.
However, there are some occasions when reciting Astaghfar is especially recommended.
After Namaz
Rasoolullah ﷺ used to recite Astaghfar 3 times after completing Fardh prayers. By doing this, he wanted to confess that he couldn’t worship Allah SWT as well as he should have. Because Allah’s magnificence is unlimited.
So, make a habit of reciting astaghfar after every Fardh namaz.
In The Morning
Recite Astaghfar at the beginning of the day so that Allah’s blessings accompany you and make all your matters easy. You can read any astaghfar from this article.
Before Sleeping
Asking Allah’s forgiveness should be the last act of your day so that you are free of any sins before sleeping. This way, you will never have the burden of sins on your back.
After Every Good or Bad Deed
Recite astaghfar after every sin or bad deed to seek Allah’s forgiveness. And recite Astaghfar after every virtuous act like Nqamaz, Roza, Umrah or Hajj to confess that Allah I couldn’t do it as well as I should’ve. So please forgive my shortcomings and accept it the way it is.
Apart from these occasions, also read this blessed Astaghfar during the virtuous nights of the Islamic Calendar such as Shab e Qadr, Shab e Barat, etc.
