Can you eat chewing gum while fasting?
No, Islamic scholars say you cannot eat chewing gum while fasting. If you do, it will break your fast.
Why? Because chewing gum has syrup inside that combines with your saliva and goes into your stomach.
So, if anyone intentionally eats chewing gum while fasting, their fast will not only become invalid, they will have to make it up by:
- Keeping a Qaza fast after Ramadan.
- Keeping 60 consecutive fasts as a penalty for intentionally eating while fasting. If they miss even one fast before competing these 60 fasts, they’ll need to start from zero again.
- Make sincere tauba and recite astaghfar because intentionally breaking your fast is a major sin.
