The Blessed & Sacred Islamic Nights

Every moment of our lives is a blessing and an opportunity for us to get closer to Allah SWT by following the guidance e of His Final Messenger, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

But according to various verses of the Holy Quran and Ahadith of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, some days and nights hold special significance in the Islamic calendar.

They include.

  • The first 10 days and nights of Dhul Hijjah
  • The day of Arafah – 10 Dhul Hijjah
  • Laylatul Tarweeha, the night of 8th Dhul Hijjah
  • Laylatul Arafah, the night of 9th Dhul Hijjah
  • Laylatul Nahr, the night of 10th Dhul Hijjah (Chand Raat of Bakrid)
  • Laylatul Qadr, also called Shab e Qadar
  • Laylatul Jaiza, the night of Eid ul Fitr (Chand Raat)
  • Ashura, the night and day of 10th Muharram

Apart from these nights, the night of 15th Shaban (also called Shab e Barat) and the night of 27th Rajab (Shab e Meraj) are also considered blessed, although there’s disagreement among scholars whether one should perform special prayers on these nights or not.

But, in short, all of these days and nights hold special significance in the Islamic calendar, and prayers and supplications made on these nights hold additional rewards.

Arafah Day And Night

9th Dhul Hijjah is the day of Arafah, also called Yom ul Arafah. Arafat Day 2023 is expected to fall on 27th June 2023 (subject to moonsighting). It is among the most sacred days in the Islamic calendar as it is the day when Hajj pilgrims (Hujjaj) perform the most important part of Hajj, the Wuquf (standing in supplication in the plains of Arafah/maidan e arafat)

Dhul Hijjah First 10 Days

The first ten days and nights of Dhul Hijjah (also called “Ashra e zil hajj”) are the most blessed moments of the Islamic calendar containing immense rewards for prayers, supplications, zikr, Quran recitation, and any other act of worship. Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, and Qurbani of Eid ul Adha also take place during these ten days, increasing their significance.

Shab e Barat

Shab e Barat, the 15th night of the month Shaban, is a sacred night in the Islamic calendar with immense rewards for anyone who prays, supplicates, or performs any act of worship.

Shab e Qadar

Laylatul Qadr or Shab e Qadar falls in the last ten nights of Ramadan. According to Surah Qadr, praying on this night is better than 1000 months of worship.

Shab e Meraj

Shab e Meraj (the night of Asra) is the 27th night of the month of Rajab. Shab e Meraj 2024 will fall on 7th Feb 2024 (subject to moonsighting).

Every night in the blessed month of Ramadan contains numerous virtues.

Eid ul Fitr Night

The night of Eid ul Fitr also called Laylatul Jaiza or Chand Raat, is an immensely rewarding night that most people ignore in Eid preparation.

Ashura – 10th Muharram

Ashura, the 10th day of the month of Muharram, is among the holiest days in the Islamic calendar. Ashura 2023 is expected to be on 28 July 2023 (subject to moonsighting.)
