Arfa Roza Iftar Dua

Since my childhood, I’ve always seen my parents fast on the day of Arafah, 9th Dhul Hijjah. Naturally, when I became an adult, I started fasting on this day as well.

But I always wondered why Arafat Day fasting is so important. Aren’t Ramadan fasts enough? Is it compulsory to fast on Arafat Day? When should we fast on Arafat Day – according to our local moon sighting or the day pilgrims gather in Arafat?

As a teenager, I had all those questions in my mind.

But as I grew up, gained knowledge from scholars, and understood the essence of Arafat Day and Hajj, I realized why fasting in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah (especially on the 9th) has so much reward.

I’m sure you might have some of those questions as well. So, in this article, I’ll share the relevant Arafat Day fasting hadith and the views of renowned scholars to answer all those questions.

Let’s get started.

Youm e Arfa Ka Roza Aur Uske Zaruri Ahkaam (Urdu/Hindi)

Youm ul Arfa main woh Muslamna jo Hajj nahi kar rahay unke liye sab se afzal amal is din Roza rakhna hai.

Huzoor e Aqdas ﷺ ne is Arfa ke rozay ke bay shumar fazail bayan farmae hain jisko wajah se Ummat ke tamam naik logo ka is don roza rakhne ka mamool raha hai.

Arfa ke rozay se mutalliq kuch zaruri tafseel ye hai.

Arfa Ka Roza Kab Hai?

Arfa Ka Roza Kis Din Rakhain – Saudia K Sath Ya Chand Ki Tareekh?

Isko yu samjhay kay Saudi Arab main jab Fajr ki Namaz ka waqt hota hai us waqt Pakistan aur India main Fajr ka waqt khatam ho chuka hota hai.

Isi tarha har ibadat main yehi usool hai.

Insha Allah apni chand ki tareekh ke lehaaz se Roza rakhengay to uski fazeelat puri puri hasil ho jaegi.

Arfa Ke Din Roza Ki Fazilat In Hadith

Hadith sharif main Arafat ke din ke rozay ki buhat fazeelat aee hai.

Aik hadees main Huzoor e Akram ﷺ ne farmaya

“‏ مَنْ صَامَ يَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ، غُفِرَ لَهُ سَنَةٌ أَمَامَهُ وَسَنَةٌ بَعْدَهُ ‏”

Mafhoom: “Jo shakhs Arfa ke din ka roza rakhay ga uske guzishta aur ainda saal ke gunah muaaf kardiye jaengay” (Sunan Ibn Majah 1731)

Is azeem fazilat ko hasil karne ke liye Arfa ka roza zarur rakhna chahye.

Magar yaad rahay ke ye Nafli roza hai.

Agar kisi wajah se koi na rakh sakay to usko malamat nahi karni chahye.

Arafat Ke Roza Ki Niyat

Arfa ka roza rakhne ke liye niyat ke koi khaas alfaaz nahi hain.

Niyat naam hai iraday ka.

Is liye jab ye irada karliya ke Arfa ka nafli roza Allah ki riza ke liye Huzoor e Akram ﷺ ke hukm par rakhna hai to bas yehi niyat kafi hai.

Chahay to apni zaban main alfaaz bhi ada kar lain.

“Aay Allah main Arfa ke Rozay ki niyat karta hu. Isko asan farma dijiye, qubool farma lijiye, aur iski fazilat mujhe ata farma dijay”

Arfa Ka Roza Sehri Time

Is saal yani 2024 main Pakistan/India main Arfa ka Roza 15 June 2024 ko hoga insha Allah.

Agar roza rakhne ka irada ho to Subah e Sadiq se pehle sunnat ki niyat se kuch sehri karni chahye kyuke ye hamaray pyare nabi ﷺ ka tareeqa tha.

Sehri main kuch bhi khaya ja sakta hai lekin behtar hai ke lassi, khajoor, aur roti ka istemaal karain. Is ke ilawa bhi jo chahay kha sakte hain.

Sehri ka time Subah e Sadiq se pehle pehle tak hota hai.

Is liye apne ilaqay main subah sadiq ka waqt pehle se dekh kar rakhna chahye.

Roza Iftar Karne Ki Dua Aur Niyat

Is waqt alag ho kar tanhaee main khoob girgira kar Allah taala se apni dunya o akhirat ki har hajat maang lena chahye.

Chahay bacho ki shadi ka masla ho, rizq ki tangi ho, qarz ho, koi beemari ho, ya koi bhi parehsani, is waqt main apne rab se dil laga kar dua karain aur qubuliyat hasil karain.

Phir jab iftar ka waqt ho jae aur maghrib azan honay lagay to ye dua parh kar roza khol lain.

Transliteration: Allahumma Laka Sumtu Wa Ala Rizqika Aftartu

Mafhoom: Aay Allah! Maine tere liye roza rakha aur tere diye huay rizq se iftar kia

Sath Sath Azan ka jawab bhi detay rahain aur Azan ke baad uski Masnoon Dua bhi parhay.

Why Do We Fast On Arafat Day?

Fasting on Arafat Day is a beautiful Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). He taught us that fasting on this day not only expiates the sins of the past year but also those of the upcoming year.

Prophet ﷺ encouraged everyone who was not offering Hajj to observe. This had two benefits.

  • It allowed those fasting to gain the immense rewards of this day.
  • It helped them spiritually join the pilgrims in Arafah.

It’s a day of forgiveness and astaghfar, and a chance for us to draw closer to Allah. So even those who can’t perform Hajj for any reason can gain the blessings and rewards of this monumental occasion by fasting on Arafat Day.

Isn’t it amazing that by observing this fast, we have the opportunity to have our sins wiped clean?

When To Fast For Arafat Day (Saudi Arabia Or Local Moon)?

One of the most common questions about fasting on Arafat Day is when to actually observe this fast.

Some people believe we should observe Arafat Day according to the Islamic date in Saudi Arabia when all the pilgrims are gathered in Arafat.

But some believe Arafat Day fast should be observed according to the local Islamic date of your region.

So what’s the correct opinion?

While there is a slight disagreement among scholars on this matter, most Ulama and scholars believe you should fast on Arafat Day according to your local moon sighting and Hijri calendar.

Why? Because Arafat Day is specific to the 9th Dhul Hijjah, not the gathering of pilgrims in Arafat Plains.

So, to get the reward for fasting on Arafat Day, you must observe it on the 9th Dhul Hijjah, according to your local moonsighting.

Here’s the opinion of renowned scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani about fasting on Youm ul Arafah (Arafat Day) in Urdu.

And here’s what Mufti Menk, another famous scholar says about this issue in English.

In short, most scholars believe you should fast according to your local moon date. However, it is not a major issue and scholars have differences of opinion. So whichever side you’re on, do it for the sake of Allah and expect mercy and rewards from Him.

Who Should Fast On Arafat Day?

Fasting on the Day of Arafat is highly recommended for all capable and healthy adult Muslims who are not performing Hajj. In fact, it’s deemed one of the best days of the year to fast because of its immense rewards.

However, those on the Hajj pilgrimage are discouraged from fasting on this day, mainly because of the exertion required for the rites of Hajj. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself did not fast while performing Hajj to ensure he had the strength needed for the spiritual tasks at hand.

It is narrated by narrated by Ummul Mumineen, Maimoona (wife of Prophet Muhammadﷺ), that the Prophet intentionally drank milk in front of everyone in Arafah to show that he wasn’t fasting.

“The people doubted whether the Prophet (ﷺ) was fasting on the day of `Arafat or not, so I sent milk while he was standing at `Arafat, he drank it and the people were looking at him.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1989)

However, if you’re not performing Hajj, fasting on Arafat Day is highly recommended.

Is It Compulsory To Fast On Arafat Day?

While fasting on the Day of Arafat holds enormous spiritual benefits, it’s not obligatory (fard). Instead, it’s considered a highly recommended (sunnah) act of worship. This practice, though voluntary, brings great reward.

So, you should fast on this day for the sake of Allah, seeking His mercy and forgiveness, and to follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophetﷺ and his Sahaba.

The Prophet himself didn’t fast on this day because he was perming Hajj. But he encouraged everyone who was not performing Hajj to fast on Arafat Day so that they join the pilgrims in this day’s immense rewards.

The Importance And Benefits Of Fasting On Arafat Day In Hadith

If you’ve read this far, you probably understand the importance of fasting on Arafat Day. But to emphasize its significance, let me share a famous Hadith about the Arafat Day fast.

It was narrated that Qatadah bin Nu’man said:

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘Whoever fasts the Day of ‘Arafah, his sins of the previous and following year will be forgiven.’ (Sunan Ibn Majah 1731)

This hadith has been shared by multiple sources and is considered authentic by most scholars.

It clearly mentions the immense reward for fasting on Arafat Day mentioned by the Holy Prophetﷺ.

Arafat Day Fast Niyat & Dua

As with any Islamic fast, the fast of Arafat Day starts with a niyat (intention) to fast for the sake of Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stressed the importance of sincere intention in all acts of worship, as demonstrated in the Hadith, “Verily actions are by intentions.”

While there’s no specific prayer to recite, one might simply make the intention in their heart or verbalize a prayer such as, “I intend to fast this day of Arafat for the sake of Allah.”

During the fast, Muslims engage in abundant dua (supplications) and zikr (remembrance of Allah), seeking His forgiveness, mercy, and blessings. The Prophet ﷺ said, “The best dua is the dua on the day of Arafat” (Tirmidhi, 3585), emphasizing the immense value of supplication on this special day.

As part of the Arafat Day observances, Muslims recite the Quran, make specific invocations, and ask for forgiveness and guidance. It’s recommended to repeat the dua of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on the Day of Arafat: “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, alone without partner. To Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things capable.”

In the final moments before breaking the fast, Muslims are encouraged to make heartfelt dua, as this time is considered a moment of acceptance. As they break their fast, they may say a dua such as, “The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.” It’s a moment of reflection, gratitude, and hope, marking the end of a day dedicated to spiritual growth and divine connection.

Things To Do While Fasting On Arafah?

The Arafat Day fast is like any other Nafil (optional) fast. You will start your fast by eating Suhoor before Fajr time. While fasting, you cannot eat, drink, or have sexual relations with your spouse.

To make your fast even more valuable, here are a few things you should do.

Offer Namaz With Congregation (Jamat)

Stay in the state of Wudu and offer all five mandatory (fardh) prayers in Masjid with the congregation. It is mandatory for Muslim men to offer Namaz with Jamat (unless there’s a strong excuse). Women should offer Namaz as soon as its time arrives.

Zikr And Dua

Arafat Day is a day of intense dua and remembrance (zikr) of Allah SWT.

The best dua and zikr for this day is:

Arabic Dua To Read During Arafat Day Fast

English Translation

Transliteration

Apart from this dua, read Sunnah azkaar like Subhan Allah, Alhmadulillah, Allahu Akbar and any other zikr mentioned in Hadith.

Also, make abundant Dua for all your matters as this is a day of acceptance of Dua. In addition, recite as much Durood Sharif as you can.

Recite the Holy Quran while fasting on Arafat Day as it is among the best forms of worship.

There’s no specific Surah or verse to recite during Arafat Day fast. You can read the Quran from anywhere you like.

  • Surah Ya-seen

  • Surah Waqiyah
  • Surah Mulk
  • Surah Ikhlaas

The Quran is full of rewards and you’ll gain Allah’s pleasure no matter what you read from it.

Sadaqah (charity) is among Allah SWT’s most beloved forms of worship. So when you’re fasting on the Day of Arafah, look around and help anyone you see in need. Feed the hungry and help the needy irrespective of their religion or caste.

What Time Does Arafat Fast Open (Iftar)?

After you spend the Arafat Day fasting, it’s time to break your fast and eat your Iftar.

What is the Iftar time on Arafat Day? You can break your fast at Sunset. So, check your local sunset time on 9th Dhul Hijjah to find the exact Iftar time.

Recite this dua when breaking your fast.
